The Cars Shopping team aimed to help travelers find the best rental car options within their budget. To enhance the user experience and drive revenue, a side sheet feature was designed to present alternative cars priced similarly to the traveler’s initial selection, enabling smarter choices without disrupting the shopping flow.
In addition, revamped Expedia’s car offer card by leveraging logged-in traveler preferences to present the most fitting option, driving higher conversion.

Usability testing revealed that travelers define “deals” primarily by price savings, not overall value—making clear pricing and transparency essential. Many users were unsure if alternative cars offered the same features as their original selection, highlighting the need for consistent confidence messaging and comparable details. Insights also showed that comparison criteria vary widely by traveler and trip type, underscoring the need for a flexible, personalized design approach. Incorporating these findings led to a 15% increase in engagement with alternative car options and improved traveler confidence in their rental decisions.
